Browns – Worcester
Updated: May 7
Now if you don’t know, I absolutely LOVE The Daffodil in Cheltenham. It’s one of my absolute faves, mainly because of the cool history to the building, but also because they do food. Well. So when D and I won a trip to Browns @ The Quay in Worcester – The now sister restaurant to The Daffodil, I was really excited. Thanks to Russell Meers & Gill LLP – we had an amazing evening and stay at Browns, it totally lived up to my expectations and we felt treated like kings!
The layout in the place is beautiful. We had a gorgeous bedroom overlooking the river, which was lovely to wake up to in the morning. The restaurant is mainly upstairs, on a mezzanine which overlooks the bar, and being a Friday night it was relatively busy. The only thing I didn’t like was that we had to walk through the restaurant to get to the bedrooms, but this is certainly no major issue. There was some cracking music being played (from John Legend to Westlife) and a low buzz, perfect for a chilled out dinner followed by a couple of G&T’s in the bar.
The staff were amazing, really friendly and happy to help out with everything we needed. Especially the guy who was managing & looking after the front desk etc – he was everywhere and anywhere all at once! The thing that I thought these guys did really well, is serve us perfectly but without being overbearing. They served us everything we needed, without us really noticing they were there.
This was the absolute showstopper. Before we even arrived, D had picked out the Camembert for starter (it’s his absolute favourite). But this Camembert was no mean feat, it came with a plethora of dips and breads, and tasted incredible. We followed the sharing starter with a sharing mean – a Tomahawk steak. Not a cut I’ve ever heard of before, let alone tried, and it was dreamy. To look at, for a start, it was extremely impressive, and was cooked beautifully medium rare – the knife cut through like butter. I would definitely order again, and if I needed to go to Worcester this restaurant would definitely be top of my list! Our only downside was that we couldn’t finish it! (And it would have been nice if they cut it up for us at the table). We didn’t manage pudding, and headed off to the bar for a perfect G&T before rolling to bed in our beautiful hotel room.
Breakfast was included in our stay, and it was all cooked fresh to order. It was almost like a meal in itself – we had the option of starters & mains. D had a beautiful granola yoghurt to start, and I had some bread & muffin (I wasn’t keen on the muffin, but the bread was delish). I just loved the look of D’s breakfast, it looked so pretty! Then D followed with a full English (it would be rude not to!) and I had my favourite – bacon & maple syrup pancakes, which were light and fluffy with back bacon cooked just the way I like it! The only thing which was missing (mainly because I’m a potato fiend) was some form of potato.
Price & Rating
All in all we had a fabulous night and day in Worcester, and it’s a huge thanks to Russell Meers & Gill LLP, as well as Browns at the Quay for looking after us. If I ever needed a place to stay in Worcester this would be top of my list, and it would be the first restaurant I’d recommend to anyone. We had £100 to spend on dinner, and that got us a 2 course meal, bottle of prosecco (fizz friday = half price prosecco!), and 2 G&T’s. Not bad for the awesome experience that we had.
Thanks for a lovely time!
