Ham Yard at the Ham Yard Hotel – London

Updated: Apr 21, 2020

Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to the Ham Yard Hotel in Soho for breakfast. I couldn’t have been more excited. I’ve been working on ‘Pan’, and we had run an event here recently which I couldn’t attend, but the pictures were beautiful! So when my boss said we could go there for breakfast I was ecstatic.

I got there approx 15 mins early but was quickly seated at a lovely table at the back of the restaurant, perfect for some quiet for a breakfast meeting. The setting was stunning, very classic and elegant with beautiful crockery. I was offered a tea, which came ‘properly’, in a teapot with a strainer! I felt very posh.

The staff were very attentive and polite, and despite my casual attire in this posh setting I didn’t feel out of place.

Knowing full well what I wanted to order before we even got there, myself and 2 others ordered pancakes with bacon.  It came with a lovely little jug of maple syrup on the side, which I loved because it meant I could pour as much or as little as I wished.

One thing that nobody gets right is the distribution of bacon to pancakes. The pancakes were deliciously light and fluffy, and the bacon was crisped perfectly with not too much fat (I usually cut this off). However, it was 2 small pieces of bacon to 2 large pancakes – I would say you either need 2 more pieces of bacon, or 1 less pancake!

As much as I love a good hearty breakfast, I felt that the addition of butter was unnecessary – and also slightly excessive – 2 large lumps of butter were scrumptious but not really needed with the syrup.

For a delicious breakfast the prices are pretty good – your looking at around £4-£5 for something simple all the way up to £14 for a full English.

I would highly recommend the healthy juices available on the menu too!

It’s part of the Firmdale hotels group, based in London and New York and I would certainly visit again!

Signing off,
